Dial Up Networking

When a new Dial up Networking connection is made, you will need to change some of the settings. Also use this to verify that your settings are correct.

Configure
  1. Go to My Computer, Dial up Networking.
  2. Right click on WorldTel connection icon and go to Properties.



  3. General Tab:
    1. Make sure that the phone number is entered correctly: 13112213.
    2. Verify that your modem is listed under Connect Using.
    3. Uncheck Use area code and dialing properties (may be Use country code and area code in Windows 95).

  4. Server Tab:



    1. The Type of Dial up Server must be PPP: …
    2. Advanced Options:
      1. Uncheck Log on to network.
      2. The only thing that should be checked is Enable Software Compression.
    3. Allowed Network Protocols:
      1. Uncheck NetBEUI.
      2. Uncheck IPX/SPX Compatible.
      3. The only thing that should be checked is TCP/IP.
    4. TCP/IP Settings:



      1. Server assigned IP Address needs to be enabled.
      2. Server assigned name server addresses needs to be enabled.
      3. Use IP header compression needs to be checked.
      4. Use default gateway on remote network needs to be checked.
      5. Click OK.
      6. Click OK again to bring you back to the Dial up Networking folder.

  5. You have now successfully created an Internet account.
  6. To create a shortcut on your desktop, right click on WorldTel connection icon, select Create Shortcut.
  7. You will get the message Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Would you like a shortcut to be placed on your desktop instead? Choose Yes.
  8. You are now ready to connect to the Internet.
